Did Ed Boon just outright confirm NetherRealm Studios’ next project with his latest set of clues?

It’s been over a year since NetherRealm Studios Announced the completion of Mortal Kombat 11 post-launch development. What could be their next project? Is it Mortal Kombat 12, Injustice 3, something to do with Marvel, or is it something else entirely?

During Ed Boon’s latest Q&A on Twitter, he apparently dropped a game-changing clue about NetherRealm Studios’ next project. With that clue in mind, all signs now seem to point to Mortal Kombat 12.

“Tip for [the] next game?” asked Mistletoe on Twitter during Ed Boon’s Q&A session. Surprisingly, Ed Boon responded by simply stating “I3 or MK12”.

Unless Boon has something else in mind, these abbreviations clearly point to Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12. However, some of Boon’s previous comments have apparently ruled out the possibility of Injustice 3 being NetherRealm’s next game. Studios.

In February of this year, Ed Boon told Game Informer that NetherRealm Studios had broke their pattern. Without it, Injustice 3 would probably be the game everyone’s been waiting for.

“When we broke that pattern, there was a lot of speculation about what we were going to do next,” Boon said. “I can tell you there was a reason for that, and when we announce our next game it will make a lot more sense.”

The “pattern” Ed Boon is referring to is a reference to how NetherRealm Studios has tended to alternate between Mortal Kombat and Injustice series titles since Mortal Kombat 9. We had Mortal Kombat 9, followed by Injustice: Gods Among Us , followed by Mortal Kombat X, followed by Injustice 2, and followed by Mortal Kombat 11.

During that same Q&A session, Ed Boon also stated that NetherRealm Studios will “soon fix” the issue regarding the rarity of 3D-era characters in modern Mortal Kombat titles. This means we could end up seeing more characters appearing in Mortal Kombat 4, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat: Deception, and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

However, Boon doesn’t seem to be hoping we’ll see Kabal in the next installment of Mortal Kombat. Of course, the question mark in his Tweet raises a few questions.

While we can certainly expect plenty of horror movie characters in future Mortal Kombat games from NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon is adamant that Freddy Fazbear from the Five Nights at Freddy series won’t be among the guest characters. .

Finally, Boon confirmed that he will be at The Game Awards 2022, but will not be “presenting”. This can be interpreted to mean several different things, but it looks like the announcement of NetherRealm Studios’ next project won’t actually happen at The Game Awards 2022.
